Patrick Graham, Patrick Hall, Timothy Hawkesworth and Brian Maguire are four of the most respected Irish painters to emerge in 1980s. Their work captures the political and social uncertainty of the period, while addressing the universal condition of existing in the modern world. Red Dog’s exhibition-catalogue design for the Hugh Lane supports the work illustrated in it, giving the paintings full and clear expression. Exposed binding makes reference to some of the images contained within the book, where sensitive, in-situ photography is married with a palette of mute greens, blues and greys that form a dialogue with the paintings, and with strong, expressive typefaces. Complemented with a foil-blocked dust jacket, the result is a beautiful piece that is worthy of the artists’ work it features.
