When IMMA asked Red Dog to produce a special, highly memorable catalogue to accompany their Hearth exhibition, which was a collaboration between Focus Ireland and the museum, we jumped at the chance. Focus Ireland aims to advance the right of out-of-home people to live in a place they call home through quality services, research and advocacy. The artworks from IMMA’s permanent collection that featured in the catalogue were chosen by Focus Ireland customers to represent what the notion of ‘home’ means to them, so it was clear from the outset that our design had to treat their curatorial decisions with sensitivity and creative richness.
Using subtle typography, an eight-column grid, an empathetic colour palette and environmentally friendly cream-coloured paper, the result is an understated piece, which supports the chosen work contained inside well, without eclipsing it. The dust jacket, with its repeated wallpaper-like pattern, wraps around the grey board cover to suggest the concept of home as a refuge.
